Living in the modern world has many of us disconnected from our basic instincts. It is from these instincts that our life force radiates out in the world, authentic, joyous, and purposeful. Most of us live out lives that we’ve unconsciously inherited, and are imitating patterns of living that have been passed on to us by family, school, religion, politics, and the media. As a culture, we’ve lost touch with the innate wisdom and deep subjective experience of living in a body.
Anchoring in and making decisions from the head is limited, as true transformation cannot be achieved through the mind alone. I assist you in (re)discovering the innate intelligence residing in your body, guiding you to find balance in your head, heart and hara. In our journey together, the focus may shift depending on where your (im)balance resides.
Head space includes learning oneself from an intellectual perspective. Knowing thyself plays an important part in our growth as individuals, and allows us to form meaningful and lasting relationships. Once we are aware of our patterns of behavior and their origins, we can make conscious life choices. I use parts work (IFS), character structures, and the enneagram to help myself and my clients deepen in understanding how the personality was formed, giving rise to how we operate in the world.
Heart space involves the feeling realm. As we know ourselves on deeper levels, our hearts respond as the center of compassion, love, empathy, and forgiveness. The heart holds the question: What do you need to let go of to forgive yourself and others? Gentle tantric exercises such as eye gazing and breathwork, practiced in session and taken home, are ways to access the innate intelligence and assist in the opening of the heart.
Hara refers to the energy that radiates out from the pelvic region and moves chi throughout the body. This is the center where the creative and sexual impulse is born. Working with this energy can free us to become a fuller version of ourselves. Practicing slow and deliberate touch and learning to recirculate life force energy are two ways to rewire the nervous system for greater aliveness.
